Bring Your Own Coffee, Cup & Conversation™

If you’re anything like me, then you’ve never met a stranger. And if you have, they won’t be one for long.

That means whether you meet someone at a networking event, the grocery store, or in a parking lot, you want to go beyond the limited time you have to connect and, perhaps, build a relationship, a collaboration, or what have you with that person. Sometimes you just want to form an outright friendship, as I personally believe you’re never too old to add new friends to your circle.

Most people tend to want to “meet for coffee” or have a “coffee chat” to learn more about a person, and I’m usually happy to oblige when extended the invitation. In one month alone I racked up enough coffee club reward points to pay the tab for a month of coffee meetings, and spent enough money to invest in a small coffee farm in Hawaii.

Not only that, but all the fabulous people I was meeting with one-on-one, I wanted so badly to – or ended up – connecting them with some of the other fabulous people I’d met.

That’s when I came up with the idea to host my very first BYOC: Bring Your Own Coffee, Cup & Conversation™.

This allowed me to send one invite to all the people I’d met over the past quarter or so, and connect with them all in one place, all on the same date, and at the same time. This also gave them the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and support one another.

It was simply genius . . . and everyone who was invited and attended thought so, too. So, when they started saying, “I’m going to have to steal your idea,” I knew I was on to something great; a new, innovative, and more convenient way to connect with the people we want to learn more about over coffee. Being the business savvy, entrepreneurial spirited woman I am, I quickly trademarked the name and the concept.

I’m happy and look forward to seeing others host their very own BYOC: Bring Your Own Coffee, Cup & Conversation™, and I’m even more excited to share some amazing and fun tips and resources on how to do so. But what I’m most excited about is the genuine encounters that take place without the motive to buy or sell to someone, but to truly just get to know them.

For now, here’s a general Pro Tip: No need to host some fancy cocktail party or spend money on renting a venue for a networking event. Get creative and use your residential club house, a park shelter, reserve a library room, etc. to have your BYOC: Bring Your Own Coffee, Cup & Conversation™. You can have some coffee on hand if you’d like, but for the most part, everyone stops at their favorite coffee shop or makes their own fresh pot at home, and then heads to the meeting spot. And the great thing is they don’t have to stay for the entire time allotted (I suggest blocking out a minimum of two hours), but they can drop in and out anytime during that time frame.

There is nothing better than fabulous people coming and going, and you getting to connect with them all (in one place). And if you’d like, even allow your #BYOCcoffeemates to bring a plus one or two. Perhaps they are out shopping with a friend and will find it convenient to stop by while they’re out and about. The more the merrier!

Cheers!
